Firefighters battle hilltop fire in Cumberland County

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa.- Dozens of volunteer fire companies plus Pa Bureau of Forestry personnel remain on the scene of a  mountaintop fire Cumberland  County.

Firefighters respond to the scene at 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon to the fire in Upper Mifflin Township, new Newburg.  The fire has consumed a hundred acres of a hilltop just off Three Square Hollow Road. The fire could be seen for miles by passing motorist on nearby roads and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. County 911 says the fire although still burning has been contained and poses no threat to the public.

Crews from half a dozen fire companies will remain on the scene throughout the night.
