MOUNT JOY, Pa.– Both suspects in a carjacking and police chase have been apprehended my police.

Alfred Carrerra, 44, and Lisa Smith, 45, were both taken into custody after an overnight pursuit.

On November 16 leading into November 17, police chased Carrerra in his vehicle. Carrerra proceeded to crash his vehicle during the pursuit, leading him and Smith to flee on foot. Both were apprehended after a short pursuit.

Previously on November 15, police were dispatched to the Giant store located at 789 E. Main St. for a shoplifter in progress. Prior to police arrival, both Carrerra and Dawn exited the store and entered a stolen Dodge Durango, which proceeded toward Route 230.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Carrerra refused to yield and fled from officers while traveling eastbound on Route 230. In the following 10 minutes, Carrerra led officers on a chase on Route 230, Route 283, Route 772 and N. Colebrook Road with speeds approaching 100 MPH. Carrerra began to drive in the oncoming lane of traffic on N. Colebrook Road, causing officers to curtail their pursuit with concerns for the safety of other drivers.

Following an investigation, police found that Carrerra had been involved in similar retail theft and high speed chases in at least two other Central Pennsylvania counties within the past two weeks.

Both Carrerra and Smith are expected to be committed to Dauphin County Prison on multiple charges.
