LEBANON, Pa. – A 51-year-old man was struck and killed by a Norfolk Southern freight train in Lebanon City. It happened at around 4:30 p.m. late Monday at North 8th Street and the Railroad tracks.

Police say the train was traveling east bound on the northern set of rails.  Witnesses told investigators that the male stopped at the southern set of rails and tried to run across the tracks, but tripped on a southern rail and fell into the path of the oncoming train.

The unidentified pedestrian was crossing just west of the N. 8th Street crossing.  There is no marked or lighted crossing where the male was struck.  No one was seen with the male or around the area when he attempted to cross of the tracks.

The victim’s name is not being released pending notification of his family.
