HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Hunters Sharing the Harvest is celebrating a monumental amount of donated venison: 1 million pounds!

HSH is a statewide program that accepts donated venison from Pennsylvania hunters and distributes it to those in need through local food banks.  The program recently received its one millionth pound of donated meat.

"We're very proud of that accomplishment," says John Plowman, director of HSH, "because this program, unique to Pennsylvania, is the largest and longest serving and most accountable in the whole country."

HSH is also celebrating its 25th anniversary.  Founded in 1991, the program aims to provide 100,000 pounds of processed venison each year, to the state's 20 regional food banks.  Those donations help to create nearly half a million meals for Pennsylvanians who are considered to be food insecure.
