Camp Curtin Academy has dismissed students this morning after a Capital Area Transit city bus hit a transformer outside of Camp Curtin Academy, Harrisburg School District Supt. Sybil Knight-Burney wrote in an email to district school board members.
Knight-Burney said when the bus hit the transformer, it left the school without electricity.
“It may be many hours before it is restored,” Knight-Burney wrote. “Students will be dismissed and all staff sent to the administration building. I will keep you posted with any updates. Thank you!”
According to Harrisburg City Police, officers responded to the 500 block of Division Street at 8:16 a.m. where the CAT bus struck a pole. When they arrived, officers confirmed that a CAT bus did strike a pole.
One person was transported to a local hospital with injuries, police said. Several other passengers complained of minor injuries or pain.
The pole that was struck was damaged, and caused local power outages in the immediate area around Camp Curtin Academy. The local power company has been notified and will be making the needed repairs, Harrisburg City police explained.
Police said they anticipate power to be returned as soon as possible.
