LITTLE TASTE OF WINTER TONIGHT
Later tonight and into the overnight, a quick moving system brings a period of light snow. A mix of snow, sleet and or rain is likely. Spots in Mifflin, Juanita, Perry and northern Dauphin Counties will see light snow showers amounting to a possible accumulation of half an inch of snow on grassy areas. It will have a difficult time sticking to roadways.
Light snow may mix in across Cumberland, York and Lebanon counties in some of the higher areas. Farther south, light rain showers possible with a mix of flakes and sleet from time to time. Morning lows expected to range from the upper 20s to the lower 30s. The time period to expect the snow and wintry mix is after 10pm tonight until 6am Monday morning.
High-pressure building in by afternoon will help give us breaks of sunshine before the sun sets. Temperature rebound to the middle and upper 40s.
Another threat for a wintry mix of precipitation returns Tuesday but is expected to change over to rain showers by afternoon. Highs are much colder in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees. We are in between system Wednesday with mostly cloudy skies and highs near 50 degrees. Next system on Thursday brings rain and snow showers. It is also followed by much colder air to end the week. Temperatures are cold in the lower 40s. Overnight, temperatures plunge to the 20s and remain in the 30s during the day Friday with brisk winds to add to the cold feel. Flurries are possible under mostly cloudy skies.
High-pressure returns on Saturday calming the winds and proving more sunshine but it is brief as our next system quickly approaches Sunday. Highs Saturday are in the 30s again after morning lows in the upper teens and lower 20s. Sunday is another cold start in the 20s. Clouds are building back in across the area during the day and temperatures remain in the 30s for most with a few areas hitting 40 degrees. Snow chances increase late Sunday as moisture spreads in ahead of our next system. We’ll be watching for the potential for accumulating snow by Monday morning.
