NEW FREEDOM, YORK COUNTY, Pa.-- A man was rescued from a burning home in southern York County on Sunday night. The fire broke out at a duplex on the 100-block of Constitution Avenue around 8:45 p.m.

FOX43 is told a police officer arriving on the scene, was able to get the man out of the back of the house to safety. The man was sleeping when the fire started. A dog inside the home was also able to get out safely.

Fire officials say the fire started in the living room of the first floor; that home will be uninhabitable for quite some time. The home attached to the duplex sustained smoke damage.

A fire marshal will investigate the cause. A damage estimate has not yet been released.
