SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police Troop H Carlisle say they are investigating an escape from and attempted homicide of a Shippensburg Borough Police Officer.

The incident began at around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.  Shippensburg Police responded to a suspicious vehicle which was parked in a private construction yard on West Martin Avenue.  The vehicle was found to be occupied by an unidentified male.  During the preliminary investigation into the trespassing, the male was asked to exit his vehicle for the safety of all present.

The male, while out of the vehicle  ran away from the officer who was monitoring him.  He then stole a marked police SUV and began to flee.  During his escape the male drove the SUV directly toward of one of the officers at which point the officer fired at the male.  The number of shots fired is under investigation. The male was hit by one or more bullets but continued to flee for approximately 1.5 miles on multiple roadways placing the public in even greater risk.  His injuries eventually caused him to stop. He was found still in the stolen police vehicle on Roxbury Road.

Police say he was immediately rendered medical  aid for his injuries and subsequently transported by helicopter to Hershey Medical Center for treatment.

The suspect's condition and identity are being withheld.  The officers involved were not seriously injured in this incident.
