GREENWICH TOWNSHIP, BERKS COUNTY, Pa.–A Harrisburg man was killed late Friday night after being struck by a jackknifed tractor-trailer along Interstate 78 in Berks County.
The accident happened around 11:55 p.m. along Interstate 78 east near mile marker 35 in Greenwich Township. According to state police reports, the driver of the tractor-trailer was headed east when his tractor-trailer began to jackknife and hit the rear of a 1999 Honda Accord. The Accord was parked on the shoulder of the road after becoming disabled from a previous crash.
Wilby Henriquez-Vazquez, 22, of Harrisburg was standing outside his vehicle when he was struck by the tractor-trailer and thrown onto the highway. He died at the scene.
His passenger, Margaret Esteves-Gonzalez, 35, of Harrisburg was also injured in the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt.
