DUNCANNON, Pa. — A boil water advisory is in effect for all customers of the Duncannon Borough Water system.  The Borough officials instituted the advisory after a disinfection system failure at one of the Borough’s wells resulted in a low level of chlorine, which is used to kill disease-causing pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoans in water.

Officials said all customers should boil water for a full minute and let it cool before consuming it, or use bottled water.  Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation.

Consuming wrongly treated or wrongly protected water may contain disease-causing organisms.  These organisms can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, cramps, and associated headaches.

These symptoms are not caused only by organisms in mistreated drinking water.  If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.  People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking this water.

The Borough has taken the impacted well offline and is actively working to repair the disinfection system equipment to obtain the required level of treatment. Officials will notify the pubic when they no longer need to boil the water.

More information can be found on the Borough’s web site at www.DuncannonBoro.org.
