LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College men’s and women’s swim teams and two coaches flew into the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport earlier today. The teams are there for practice and a competition for their annual winter training trip, taking place at Lynn University in Boca Raton.
All but one student-athlete, who had a late arriving flight, left the airport safely in vans before the shooting. The team was in terminal one, the shooting took place in terminal two.
At approximately 12:55 p.m., a shooter opened fire in Terminal 2’s baggage claim area, fatally wounding multiple people and injuring several others.
The college issued a statement saying that everyone from the swim team, and the coaches, are safe.
