HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Police say a wanted man is dead, after barricading himself inside a home in Harrisburg Saturday afternoon.
Around 12:40 p.m., officers received an anonymous tip that 24-year old Daequann Buckner was inside a home on the 2300-block of Berryhill Street.
Buckner was wanted on several charges, including two counts of Criminal Attempted Homicide. Those charges were filed and an arrest warrant issued in connection to the shootings of a man and woman at the intersection of N. 5th and Granite Streets in the city on February 4th.
On Saturday afternoon, police and numerous SWAT vehicles surrounded the Berryhill Street home. Harrisburg Police Chief Thomas Carter tells FOX43 Buckner barricaded himself in the basement. Officers spoke with Buckner for a few minutes and then heard two gunshots.
A search robot was sent inside the home and located Buckner's body in the basement.
"We thought that we had a setup where he was going to surrender, but that didn't happen. He was afraid because he was very sorry for what he did, and he was trying to find peace with himself and he was trying to find a way to surrender, but that didn't happen. Again its a tragedy and I just wish, that uh, you know this is another thing for us where we say that, you know, put down the guns, you know, there's no need for this here senseless violence," Police Chief Carter said.
Police say no one else was hurt.
The victims of the shooting on February 4th are expected to recover.
