LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. – Around 2 p.m. a Mazda 3 was traveling south on Groffdale Rd. approaching the train tracks. The driver, 30-year-old Mark Hutchens, failed to see the train, heard it at the last minute and tried to stop the car.

Hutchens was unable to stop and the car was struck on the front driver side and spun around. There were no railroad stop lights just signs. The driver said he was listening to the radio and the train did not signal the horn.

The train did apply breaks but it took about 300 to 400 yards to stop. Hutchens was checked out by a medical examiner on the scene and was okay.  He may face failure to yield to a train which can be over a one hundred dollar fine and three points on your licence.

Groffdale Rd. will be closed for several hours while Norfolk Southern investigates.
