YORK, Pa -- One man is hospitalized after a police involved shooting in York on Saturday morning.

According to a press release from Pennsylvania State Police, Terry Diffendorfer, 30, of York Haven was shot by a York City Police officer after he stole an SUV, and rammed a police cruiser, causing it to strike the officer.

Diffenderfer is accused of stealing the SUV from the Royal Farms parking lot at the corner of Loucks Road and Roosevelt Avenue, just before 4:00 a.m. Saturday. The owner of the SUV left the vehicle running while inside the store. The owner then called police, saying there was a gun inside the stolen vehicle.

York City Police quickly located the SUV with Diffenderfer inside and tried to pull him over. Instead, they say he fled the scene, striking a utility pole and leading officers on a chase.

Police cornered him in a parking lot off of Grant Street in York. Investigators say Diffenderfer hit a police cruiser with the SUV to quickly escape the situation before he was cornered again. This time, officers tried a felony traffic stop. Diffenderfer then rammed into another police cruiser, causing it to strike a second officer. The officer then shot Diffenderfer.

Diffenderfer was taken to York Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

The officer who was hit by the cruiser suffered minor injuries. It's not known if medical attention was sought.
