LANCASTER, Pa. – The fire broke out in the 300 block of North Plum Street at about 5:24 p.m. The fire which apparently began on the ouside of a two story home at 348 N. Plum and spread to the home. When the first firefighters arrived on the scene they encountered heavy smoke from behind the house. The spread to roof and threaten adjacent homes. The fire quickly went to 3 alarms, calling in all available city firefighters and mutual assistance from suburban volunteer fire companies.
The home at 348 N. Plum suffered the most damage. All the residents made it out safely and are staying with family. The damage was estimated at $10,000 to contents and $40,000 to contents. A Fire Captain said that 348 N. Plum was condemned for reasons not related to the fire. All the residents of 350 N. Plum were able return to their home.
A Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
