YORK — Police have arrested a suspect in the Sunday morning murder of Angel Hernandez.

Quayshawn Naylor-Wilson, 21, was taken into police custody on the 200 block of S. West Street on Wednesday. He is charged with one count of criminal homicide, York City police said in a press release.

Naylor-Wilson allegedly shot Hernandez sometime around 4 a.m. on Sunday on the 500 block of Philadelphia Street. Hernandez was taken in a private vehicle to York Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The victim, along with three other individuals, were on their way to a party on Philadelphia street when they encountered an individual they knew as ‘Slim’, later identified as Matthew Bell, and another person they did not know, believed now to be Naylor-Wilson, according to police documents. Hernandez and the other individuals invited Bell and Naylor-Wilson to the party, Bell declined, but Naylor-Wilson went with them, according to witnesses.

Around 4 a.m. the group decided to leave the party, and while walking out to their car, witnesses say Naylor-Wilson called out to them, causing them to stop. It was then that Naylor-Wilson allegedly pulled out a handgun, pointing it at Hernandez and firing several shots, according to police documents. Witnesses then said that they fled on foot with Naylor-Wilson pursuing them, and firing two more shots. Hernandez eventually collapsed along a fence, before being transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Bell originally denied knowing who Naylor-Wilson was at the time the pair ran into the victim and his friends on the way to the party. Claiming he was just someone who stayed frequently at the apartment he was living at on the 200 Block of S. West Street

According to police documents, Naylor-Wilson was identified by witnesses of the shooting on Sunday when detectives were giving them a ride home, following an interview regarding the investigation. Detectives moved the witnesses to a safe area, and observed the suspect running into a home on the 200 Block of S. West Street. Police arrested Naylor-Wilson at the residence where Bell was at the time, along with two other residents, who all gave statements to police. It was at this time that Bell admitted to police that he had known who Naylor-Wilson was the night of the homicide.

Naylor-Wilson is currently being held at the York County Prison after being denied bail, according to court documents. A preliminary hearing will be held August 2nd.
