LANCASTER, Pa. — Firefighters went to new heights Sunday climbing steps to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11.

The ‘9/11 Lancaster Memorial Stair Climb’ at Clipper Stadium is a way for all firefighters to honor the New York Firefighters who responded to the terror attack nearly 16 years ago.

More than 360 firefighters took on the challenge and climbed the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.

Organizers say it’s about coming together and remembering those who sacrificed their life to help save others.

“Everybody carries a picture badge of a firefighter from NYC that died that day, so by finishing our stair climb, we`re showing that he completed his climb,” said Scott Yuill, stair climb coordinator.

More than $12,000 was raised at the event.

All funds will go towards the New York Fire Department counseling services and programs provided by the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation to support their families.
