SADSBURY TWP., Pa. — A man and woman were taken into custody following a car chase in southern Lancaster County, although it remains unclear whether they have been arrested.
On Thursday around 1 p.m., Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies were at a home on Maple Shade Road in Colerain Township to serve a felony warrant. A man, identified as 26-year-old Clinton Lane Young III, and a woman fled the scene in a black Scion xB, leading deputies, state police and Christiana Borough police on a four-mile chase before the man crashed near a home on the 600 block of Noble Road in Sadsbury Township.
At some point in the chase, Young drove his car at deputies, prompting at least one of the deputies to fire at least one shot that missed, according to Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman.
Stedman’s office will lead the investigation since the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department was the primary law enforcement agency in the chase. Enforcing warrants and protecting county facilities like the courthouse are the primary functions of sheriff’s departments in Pennsylvania.
“Part of their job is to serve warrants on individuals,” he said. “In this case, there was a felony warrant for him and they have countywide ability to do that and they were conducting their duties. That’s a typical thing for them to do.”
Stedman stressed that the limited information provided was preliminary as investigators continue to piece together what happened.
“The actions of the driver, who preliminary indications are, drove at the deputies, are there going to be any charges on him, and was the use of force, even though they didn’t hit anybody, justified, and you have to look at that, just follow the facts,” Stedman said.
