HARRISBURG, Pa — Police are searching for a 5-year old girl they say was abducted by her mother in Harrisburg Sunday morning.
According to investigators with the Harrisburg Bureau of Police, Melissa Szafran, of New Jersey traveled to Harrisburg to visit her five-year old daughter, Gianna Savage. The girl’s uncle, who lives in Harrisburg, has legal custody of the child.
The family went to St. Patrick’s Cathedral Church for services. During mass, Gianna indicated she needed to use the restroom. Her mother, Szafran, escorted her to the bathroom, but they never returned.
A search was conducted for the girl and her mother, but they could not be found.
Szafran lives in New Jersey and was in the company of Jeffery Kane, 63. They came to Harrisburg in a burnt orange Jeep Wrangler with a soft black top. Their whereabouts are unknown at this time.
