Schools within Harrisburg School District closed Friday due to social media threats

HARRISBURG — Schools within the Harrisburg School District will be closed Friday, February 23 because of a threat circulating on social media, the district announced Thursday night.

The district says it became aware of a threat overnight.

The superintendent and district officials are working with Harrisburg Police and a full investigation is underway.

Police released this message on the incident:

During the overnight hours several threats of violence were received towards the Harrisburg School District through social media.

These threats were taken seriously, and are being actively investigated by the Harrisburg City Police.

As information is developed and validated it will be released when feasible.
