LITITZ, Lancaster County, Pa. -- Warwick and Wilson faced off in Lititz, putting a possible share of the Lancaster-Lebanon Section I crown on the line Friday night.
The Warriors entered the game with a 3-1 conference record and were looking to take a bite out of the Bulldogs perfect conference slate.
On homecoming night, Warwick came out firing. Sophomore Joey McCracken started for the first time in his career. McCracken hit Nick Fucci who took it down the sideline for a 53-yard touchdown, putting the Warriors up 7-0 early on. The stadium was lit, as the youths would say, early.
McCracken connected with Connor Adams who took a simple slant pattern to the endzone, extending Warwick's early lead. It put them up 14-0.
But the Bulldogs were not going to go down without a fight. Anthony Futrick threw two touchdown passes in the first half, including one from 40-yards out.
The scores cut into Warwick's lead, but they entered halftime up, 17-12.
Warwick completely took control of the game in the second half. A key moment came with Wilson on fourth and goal. Warwick linebacker David Hnasko came up with a huge stop that kept the bulldogs out of the endzone.
The stop gave Warwick the ball, but it also gave them some momentum. Two plays later, Warwick makes history, with a 99-yard touchdown pass--they can't be any longer than that-- from McCracken to Trey Glass. McCracken and Glass were not done scoring, however. They also connected on an 85-yard touchdown later in the game. The two touchdown passes helped McCracken set a Lancaster-Lebanon record with 528 yards through the air.
Warwick coach Bob Locker was happy for the program's win, but also understood that the season didn't end against Wilson.
"I feel really good for the kids and programs, and the fact that we are now in a position to win part of a section title is outstanding," he said. "We just can't slip. We have to keep playing and take care of our business."
The win put them at 6-2 on the season, with a 4-1 league record. They currently are in first place in the Lancaster-Lebanon League.
McCracken had a debut to remember, with a big win and a record to boot. After the game, he deferred most of the praise to his teammates.
"Oh wow just found out about that but feels great, my teammates did great...did an awesome job," he said. "Really made it easy."
His 528 passing yards --including two 80-plus yard touchdowns, led the way to a memorable win it Lititz.
Warwick ended up with the win, 38-12.
