SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, Cumberland County – Pennsylvania State Police say a 29-year-old Chambersburg woman died along I-81 in Cumberland County, on Sunday morning.

Pennsylvania State Police at Carlisle say the crash happened after 6:30 a.m at mile marker 28.2.

They say the woman’s  2001 Buick Century became disabled after she hit a deer.  Shortly afterwards, a 49-year-old man from Mechanicsburg, hit the back of the woman’s Buick with his 2013 Jeep Wrangler.

The man was taken to Chambersburg Hospital with moderate injuries. The woman died on the scene. Her name has not been released.

The crash is under investigation.

 State police say I-81 Northbound lanes have reopened for traffic.

A multi vehicle crash closed interstate 81 Northbound, in Cumberland County.

PennDOT’s website say the crash is between Exit 24: PA 696 Fayette St. and Exit 29: PA 174- King St.

All lanes are closed. State Police are investigating.
