YORK COUNTY, Pa. — UPDATE: The York Township man who died in a fire has been identified.
Jeffrey Egger, 54, was found deceased in his residence after suffering from injuries and smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.
On November 10 around 11:30 p.m., the York County Coroner was dispatched to a home in the 400 block of Chancellor Road in York Township for a reported fatality.
It was found that Egger had died in his residence, in which he lived alone and dealt with medical problems.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but according to investigators, the fire was the result of careless smoking.
There were also reportedly no operable smoke alarms in the home.
There will be no autopsy.
PREVIOUSLY: One person is dead after a fire breaks out at a home in the 400 block of Chancellor Road in York Township.
Crews were called to the scene around 11:15 p.m. Saturday evening.
Fire officials say the fire broke out on the first floor of the home in the living room.
An elderly male living in the home was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
