HARRISBURG, Dauphin – UPDATED: The driver of a stolen vehicle is dead after a police chase with Harrisburg Police.

Police say a person reported a stolen vehicle at 11:35 a.m. on Sunday. The owner attempted to follow the vehicle but lost it a few blocks away.

Officers spotted the vehicle in the area of South 25th Street and Brookwood Street. When police attempted to stop the vehicle the driver refused to pull over.

Officers eventually ended their pursuit once the vehicle increased in speed.

Due to the increased speed the vehicle lost control and crashed into a large tree on the 2500 Block of Brookwood Street. The driver was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Two other passengers were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The department of Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the accident.

PREVIOUS: Emergency crews are responding to a single vehicle crash in Harrisburg.

Emergency Management Agency say the accident happened on South 25th Street and Brookwood Street at 11:40 a.m.

No word on injuries.
