DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa.– UPDATE (November 30): Police are still investigating the deadly crash on Route 322, but have released their preliminary investigation results.

It appears that Smith lost control of his car and struck the center divider just east of the Fiddler’s Elbow Road overpass.

This impact caused Smith’s to continue traveling by sliding and rolling before crossing to the shoulder on the south side of Route 322.

Investigators have also determined the identity of the driver of a second car in the area and are in the process of obtaining information pertaining to the crash from that driver.

UPDATE (10:30 a.m.): Route 322 EB has now reopened.

PREVIOUSLY: A 22-year-old Swatara Township man has died after a single-vehicle crash.

The crash occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Route 322 eastbound between the Swatara Creek Bridge and the Middletown Road exit.

The man was driving a 2007 Acura TL at the time of the crash.

He has been identified as Alexander Smith, of Hummelstown, police say.

Police are still investigating with the assistance from Dauphin County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Coroner’s Office. Witnesses and potential witnesses are being interviewed, police say.

Police have learned a second vehicle was traveling with or in the vicinity of Smith’s car at the time of the crash. The second car is described as a white sedan or couple, possibly a Ford Mustang. Investigators say they would like to talk to the operator of that vehicle.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have information to assist police are asked to call Derry Township Police at 717-534-2202.

All lanes of Route 322 EB were closed between 82nd Street and Hanover Street.
