THROUGH TONIGHT: A WINTER STORM WATCH is in effect for Mifflin and Juniata counties until 6PM Tuesday. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY impats the rest of the area through Noon Tuesday. Snow continues through the mid-afternoon today in counties along the Mason-Dixon. It takes over headed towards your commute home today. Light-to-moderate steady snow persists throughout the evening and into the overnight time frame. A few heavier bands will be likely in spots as road conditions continue to deteriorate. Limit travel if possible. Snowfall totals of 2-5″ widespread will be likely, with the southern counties seeing towards the higher fringe of that range. Mifflin and Juniata counties will likely see 5-7″ of snow when all is said and done with snowfall, before a transition to sleet, freezing rain and plain rain on Tuesday.

ICE AND RAIN: Beginning in the very early morning hours, moving from southwest to northeast, sleet and freezing rain takes over the area. Most of the area sees snow during their morning commute, but this transition will be taking place area-wide throughout your morning travel hours. Sleet and freezing rain will add an extra danger to your drive, with 0.1″-0.25″ of ice accumulation possible throughout Central Pennsylvania. That period of sleet and freezing rain lasts throughout the morning and into the early afternoon before a transition to plain rain takes over for the rest of Tuesday afternoon. This rain will wash away much of our accumulated ice and snow as precipitation ends late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Re-freeze will be a concern for your Wednesday morning travel plans.

THE REST OF THE WEEK: Breezy conditions bring wind chills into the equation Wednesday. Highs reach the upper-30s, but wind chills stay in the 20s under clearing skies. We quickly jump into the mid-40s Thursday and near 50 by Friday as our next rain chance moves in heading into the weekend.
