YORK COUNTY, Pa.– West York Mayor, Shawn Mauck, has resigned.

Mauck sent this statement to FOX43:

I am honored to have accepted the opportunity to be the Borough’s Interim Borough Manager, Borough Secretary, Borough Zoning Officer, and Borough Treasurer. Under Commonwealth law, I can not remain as mayor and hold these positions within the Borough. It is bittersweet to announce that I will resign my position as Borough Mayor effective January 14th, 2019. I am proud of the legacy of accomplishments we achieved together. We rebranded our police department into a well respected community engaged organization. We are now home to Detective Prince and our K9 unit. I will always love our Borough and serve it honorably. I can stand tall and say clearly, that I am leaving this office in better shape than I received it in October of 2016. We fought the fights that needed fought, and won. I now look forward to serving all of you in a different capacity and I hope to remain in this position permanently working for you the good people of West York Borough. Borough Council is seeking residents of the Borough interested in carrying out the duties of mayor via appointment by council and or our vacancy board. The appointee will hold the office until December 31, 2019. Also, the seat will be on the 2019 ballot as a 2 year term. As I said before, I am still here serving the Borough proudly in a new capacity. One day at a time. Always, Mayor Mauck

I will miss being the mayor, but the decision is in the best interests of the people and my family. I look forward to serving the Borough residents daily with professional service.
