MECHANICSBURG, Cumberland County -- Police are investigating a suspected child-luring incident that occurred Thursday morning in Mechanicsburg.
According to police, a gray or silver van driven by a gray-haired white male approached a school bus stop at West Simpson and South Frederick streets around 7:40 a.m. The man claimed to be from the school and was there to pick up the students, but no one got in the van. The driver eventually left, police say.
The Mechanicsburg Area School District is in contact with police and is assisting in the investigations, officials say.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Leidy, in an email statement, said to remind students of the importance of staying safe around strangers and referred parents to safety resources on the district website.
