GLEN ROCK, YORK COUNTY, Pa. -- Pennsylvania Humane Society Police Officers are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty and hoarding at a home in York County.
Dozens of cats have been pulled from the house in Glen Rock over the past several days, and they say they still have more work to do.

"This tops everything," said Amy Kessler, a Humane Society Police officer. "Beyond horrific..."

Mounds of trash sit outside the home and animal feces cover the inside floors.
"It's sad.. It could be your next door neighbor, and you just don't know it," added Kessler.
For Ron Besaw and his family, it is his next door neighbor.
"Obviously, it's [we have] concern over the resale value of this property. We've put up a wall of trees to block the view of this debacle," said Besaw.
He says those trees have not blocked the cats from roaming onto his property.
"They're pretty much wild. They had no vaccines. They had no veterinary treatment," stated Besaw.
The home is in such bad shape, human society police officers say it's taken days to conduct their investigation.
"You can't take things to put them from one room and into another room cause there's no room to put things into!" explained Kessler. "It's a matter of pulling everything out of the house and looking for kittens, looking for evidence, looking for entrapped cats..."
They've rescued nearly 40 cats over the past few days; volunteers with local animal shelters offered their help.
"Basically, you have to step on cat poop to get anywhere," said Jen Althouse, who lended a hand. "There are just puppy pads upon puppy pads with poop everywhere."
Unfortunately, amid that, they say they've also discovered several dead cats.
"It makes you angry, but at the same time, you feel bad for him because there must be something very wrong," added Althouse.
Besaw agrees but says the investigation is a long-time coming.
"It is sad. It is sad it has come to this. I feel bad for the owner, but he also had the ability to keep this place in semi-decent shape if he put effort into it, and he didn't. I mean, he made the choice," stated Besaw.
The cats rescued from the home have been taken to several local animal rescues, including Heavenly Paws Animal Rescue, Inc. and Feline Solutions, Inc.
A big message from human society police officers: they say something like this is preventable.
They say there is low cost spay-neuter programs in the area offered by rescues, such as Animal Rescue, Inc.
As for the property owner, officers tell FOX43 the man will likely be facing animal cruelty charges.
