Update, 2 p.m.: State Police released details of a Friday morning crash that killed one person and injured three others on Interstate 83 South in Shrewsbury Township.

According to police, Namitha Alicea, 41, of Colonial Beach, Virginia, was killed in the crash, which occurred around 8:56 a.m. Alicea was a passenger in the back seat of a GMC Sierra truck that was struck by a Toyota Rav4 as both vehicles traveled south on I-83. The Sierra overturned after striking an embankment, ejecting Alicea and a dog that was sitting in the back seat with her, according to State Police. The driver of the vehicle, Alesander Alicea, 40, was transported to York Hospital for treatment.

Police say the accident occurred when the Toyota Rav4 lost control and struck the Sierra in the rear of the driver’s side area. The Rav4 continued south after the initial impact and eventually struck the center median. The driver of the Rav4, Nikhil Dev, 43, and his passenger, Madhura Dev, 38, both of York, were transported to York Hospital for treatment of injuries of undisclosed severity.

After it was struck by the Rav4, police say, the Aliceas’ Sierra swerved from the impact and lost control, striking the embankment and overturning.

I-83 is expected to re-open at about 3 p.m., after the investigation and accident reconstruction are completed, according to State Police.
