LOWER PAXTON TOWNSHIP, Dauphin County, Pa. - Update 5/27/19State Police have charged Devi Adhikari, 44, of Harrisburg, in the incident that took place on Interstate 83 near the Eisenhower Interchange and Union Deposit Road.

According to public records, authorities are charging Adhikari with attempted homicide, attempted aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and following too closely.

Dauphin County, Pa. ---One man is in the hospital following a state trooper-involved shooting near the Union Deposit Road off-ramp of I-83 North.

Trooper Megan Frazer with Pennsylvania State Police said the incident began around 10:30 Friday morning when the suspect aggressively followed the trooper in his vehicle while the two were driving north on Interstate 83 near the Eisenhower Interchange and Union Deposit Road.

The suspect allegedly passed the trooper's vehicle and stopped while in front of it. The trooper then initiated a traffic stop, Frazer said.

The suspect then allegedly exited his vehicle, brandishing a machete. The man did not comply with instructions to drop the weapon and moved toward the trooper, who then shot the man, injuring him. Less than five shots were fired, according to police.

The suspect was taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury. The man is expected to recover, police say.

Investigators say they are still working on determining a motive for this incident.

Trooper Frazer said the trooper involved, who was not injured in the incident, will receive time to recover from the incident.

Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo said they will now determine if the use of deadly force was justified and if the man will face criminal charges.

“When you have a deadly weapon and a machete is a deadly weapon and someone is not obeying commands to stop, deadly force can be justified so we’re going to look at that," said Chardo.

Update, 12:30 p.m.: Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo confirmed the incident is a trooper-involved shooting. State Police have scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa.-- A police incident has closed a portion of Interstate 83 northbound.

According to police, the closure of the roadway is near the Eisenhower Interchange and Union Deposit Road.
