police incident in York City

YORK — State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in York City.

State Police say two York City Police officers were called to the York Capital Bus Station on East North Street around 3 p.m. for a report of a disorderly man who was trespassing. Officers arrived on scene and made contact with the man.

According to State Police, the man — who has not been identified — walked away from officers and then pointed a weapon at them, which led to one of the officers firing at the suspect. A short foot pursuit ensued when the man fled.

Officers encounter the suspect in the rear of the York County Convention Center and one of the officers, again, fired at the suspect, striking him at least once in the leg.

The man was taken to York Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to State Police.

State Police say the weapon recovered at the scene was a black BB gun that had the appearance of a semiautomatic pistol.

York City Police issued a news release earlier Monday, saying that the officers fired because they feared for their safety.

Charges are expected for the suspect, State Police add.
