DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa.– A woman is dead after a fire broke out in apartment above a bar.

According to police, the fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. on September 4 at Queenie’s Cafe in the 1400 block of Swatara Street in Harrisburg.

Authorities say that the first floor of the building is a bar, while the second floor of the building is an apartment that caught fire.

An investigation revealed that the fire began on a stove in the apartment, and it appeared that a woman was attempting to put out the fire when she succumbed to the smoke. Her identification will be released pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities said that patrons of the bar kicked down the door to get to the second floor apartment to attempt to save the woman, but they were unsuccessful.

Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline believes the damage to the structure and its contents will likely be around $250,000.
