LEBANON COUNTY, Pa.– At least one person is dead and a portion of Interstate 81 was closed for several hours after a crash.

According to emergency dispatch, the crash occurred around 1:50 a.m. on October 16 on Interstate 81 Northbound near mile marker 85 in East Hanover Township.

The crash began when a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt was driving in the southbound lane when it struck the back of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado.

After striking the Silverado, the Cobalt crossed the center grass median and entered the northbound travel where it struck the trailer of a tractor trailer.

The Cobalt was sent spinning, and it was struck by a 2017 Dodge Journey and head on by a tractor trailer.

The driver of the Cobalt suffered suspected major injuries.

As a result of the crash, two people were taken to the hospital, and at least one of them has died, according to PennDOT.

Interstate 81 was closed in both directions between Exit 80 at Route 743 and Exit 85 and Route 934 due to the crash for a few hours.
