HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Dauphin County man is facing a second criminal homicide charge for two separate killings in Harrisburg.
On Dec. 28, 2021, around 8 p.m., Harrisburg police responded to a report of shots fired under the Mulberry Street bridge, according to the Harrisburg Bureau of Police. At the scene, officers located Kathryn Person, 71, who had been shot dead. Her cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds.
Police found multiple ammunition casings at the scene that were distinct because they had a unique headstamp on them of LVE and were rose/copper colored, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
In March 2022, Hezekiah Campbell, 28, was charged with the death of Kenneth Cobb, a taxi cab driver who was shot and killed in Harrisburg. Police say Campbell shot and killed Cobb as he was sitting in his cab near the Amtrak station on Grace Street on March 27, 2022, around 9:25 p.m.
Pennsylvania State Police say they were able to link Campbell to Cobb's murder through clothing he was caught on camera wearing at the scene and recovered bullet casings. After executing a search warrant at Campbell's house, PSP found the following:
- Notebooks/papers that referenced prior acts of violence, i.e. previous killing(s) Campbell had committed;
- A Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun, serial number #NHW9890;
- Smith and Wesson magazines loaded with ammunition;
- 9mm ammunition with LVE headstamps that were rose/copper in color;
- Clothing that matched clothing that was noted on the night of the Cobb homicide.
State Police noted that the color and headstamp of the ammunition are very uncommon; so uncommon, in fact, that one of the investigating troopers said he had never seen ammunition like that used in a city shooting case in his over 15.5 years of experience.
The unique ammunition confirmed to troopers that the pistol used in Cobb's murder was the same one used to shoot Person, according to a criminal complaint.
State Police say both murders took place within walking distance of Campbell's house, and his mother allegedly told police that he would often take his gun with him when he went on walks after dinner.
Campbell is charged with criminal homicide and possession of a weapon.
According to court documents, Campbell has been incarcerated since 2022.
