‘Beautiful: The Carole King Musical’ at Fulton Theatre | Center Stage

The Fulton Theatre’s new production, ‘Beautiful: The Carole King Musical’, gives its audience a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a woman who made music history.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — It's the “tapestry” of a teenage songwriter’s life, who makes it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Fulton Theatre’s new production, "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical," gives audience members a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a woman who made music history.

Sarah Sheperd, who plays Carol King, says the show’s music will have the audience jamming along the journey.

“The music, I mean, it’s just bop after bop after bop,” said Sheperd.

Sheperd isn’t new to the music or story of King. She played her as an understudy on Broadway and is traveling across the country telling her story.

“To be able to bring it to all of these cities, when these regional theaters were able to get the rights to the show… it’s just been so special watching, each company get to experience it,” said Sheperd.

Associate choreographer for the musical, Alfie Parker Jr., says from the very first note audience members are brought into the world of the play and everything that’s about to happen.

“We see people dancing in their seats all the time. So, I think it’s just the fact that a lot of people know the music already and so as soon as a song comes on, they’re already smiling and bopping up and down,” said Parker Jr.

Parker, who also plays a drifter in the show, says the musical has a valuable takeaway too.

“It really lets someone see a real, true story of hardship, getting over those things and still becoming a success. So when people see that, they really get encouraged in their own lives,” said Parker.
