'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' at Lancaster's Fulton Theatre | Center Stage

The latest production of the Roald Dahl classic continues a decades-long legacy still going strong.

LANCASTER, Pa. — Whether you've read the book or seen one of the films, odds are you're familiar with what makes up "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

"It's such a fun release," Tyler Hanes, who plays Willy Wonka, said.

Whether Oompa Loompas, Gobstoppers or just a golden ticket catches your fancy, you'll find it on the stage and more.

"This is very different from the movie, but it still has everything you want," said Brodie Kennedy, who plays Charlie Bucket in the show.

And for the big kid playing Willy Wonka, the story still resonates because of the message it brings -- simply putting the screens down and using your imagination.

"I feel like it's brought me back to my 7-year-old sense. In this version, he's a big kid, there's such a sense of play and it's just so fun. You lose that sense of your younger self the older you get, and being able to revisit that self through this material, I love it," Hanes said.

Joshua William Green, who plays Mr. Beauregarde, and Ashley Calderon, who plays Violet, talk more about why the show has stood the test of time and how much it means to them in the full interview below:

Performances of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" at the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster run through July 21. For more information, visit the theatre's website.
