Generations collide in Gettysburg for 'A Christmas Carol' | Center Stage

An Adams County Christmas tradition continues at Gettysburg's Majestic Theatre with the stage adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The Company of Totem Pole Playhouse in Franklin County is getting into the holiday season with their performances of 'A Christmas Carol'.

"This becomes such a part of your family and your tradition to watch how this gets passed on," said Taylor Whidden, who takes on the role of "Mrs. Cratchit". "I think that's special."

From the Whidden's portrayal of Lady Cratchit to the actor playing Scrooge as a boy, legacy is laced throughout the show.

"I've watched my Cratchit kids from very tiny to practically adults, which has a lot of emotions attached to it," Whidden recalled. "But, it's really amazing."

Thomas Barra holds his own in the role of "Young Scrooge".

"My family watches 'A Christmas Carol' every year," Barra said. "I thought it would be cool to be a part of that."

The story of Christmas past, present and future visiting Ebenezer Scrooge impacts not only the fictional family in the tale but also the lives of those putting on the play.

"Two months ago, I would have been walking down the streets of Gettysburg and been 'Who the heck is that?'" Barra said. "Now, it's 'Oh yeah, I did A Christmas Carol with them!' Now, I have a lot more friends."

While audience members reflect on the uplifting tradition, cast members won't forget its memories either.

"I get to do this production with my little brother and that makes it twice as much fun," Barra said.

The production of 'A Christmas Carol' at the Majestic Theatre continues through December 17.
