National tour of 'Ain't Too Proud' stops at Hershey Theatre

The show follows a group of musicians as they go from the streets of Detroit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

HERSHEY, Pa. — A Tony Award-winning musical is dancing onto the stage right here in central Pennsylvania.

The UK tour group for "Ain’t Too Proud - The Life and Times of The Temptations” is performing at the Hershey Theatre for eight shows only during a national tour as part of the Theatre's 2024-25 Broadway Series.

The musical follows The Temptations, known for hits such as “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,” “Get Ready” and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” as the band goes from the streets of Detroit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and navigates the Civil Rights movement.

"Ain't Too Proud" is a 12-time Tony Award nominee and the winner of the 2019 Tony Award for Best Choreography.

Robert Crenshaw, who plays both Al Bryant and Norman Whitfield’s roles, says the dancing was the hardest part of the show to pick up.

"Everything is choreographed down to the smallest detail," Crenshaw said.

The musical is based on the book "The Temptations" by Otis Williams, the founder and last remaining member of the original Temptations. The band still performs around the country today.

"It's a dream, and it's so much fun, and it's so awesome," Crenshaw said. "Who doesn't love The Temptations? It's timeless music, and I just love everything about it."

Crenshaw says the musical a reminder to keep progressing in society.

"Can't move backwards, can't move backwards," he said. "The only thing that repeats is a song. Keep moving forward."

"Ain't Too Proud" runs through Nov. 3 at the Hershey Theatre, located at 15 E. Caracas Ave. in Hershey. Tickets can be purchased online.
