Pennsylvania Ballet Academy presents Coppélia, Act III

The Pennsylvania Ballet Academy will perform Coppélia, Act III at The Pullo Center. The show is considered one of the greatest comic ballets of the 19th century.

YORK, Pa. — Ballet will take the Pullo Center stage once again this weekend.

The Pennsylvania Ballet Academy will perform "Coppélia," Act III, which is considered one of the greatest comic ballets of the 19th century. According to the Academy, "Coppélia" is one of ballet's best-loved classical works.

"I chose this because I think 'Coppélia' is relatable to the students... The story is great," Vanessa Zahorian, artistic director, said. "We're doing the third act because it is a lot of dancing. The first two acts are a lot of acting, and I felt like to showcase my students, what I have at the time, it just fit."

The ballet school will team up with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra to have a live orchestra provide music for the performance.

Students from ages 6 to 18 will perform in "Coppélia."

The show will also feature a divertissement, or a sampling of short dances from some of ballet’s most cherished classics that feature dancers' talents, as interpreted by Zahorian and creative director Davit Karapetyan.

The performance will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 16. Tickets can be bought online.
