Pennsylvania Ballet Academy students to put on a holiday classic

Students at the Pennsylvania Ballet Academy are getting ready to perform "Nutcracker Sweets" with live music from the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra.

YORK, Pa. — Students at the Pennsylvania Ballet Academy are hard at work on a holiday tradition.

They are gearing up for their annual performance of "Nutcracker Sweets," a classic Christmas ballet.

"We compiled choreography that suits our training with our students, and it's in collaboration with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, and it's great; we get to showcase our hard work and the students with the holiday spirit," Vanessa Zahorian, artistic director for the PBA, said.

Instructors at the PBA make an effort to change up the show from year to year while still honoring the roots of the show.

They welcome anyone who is interested in learning more about ballet with classes for children and adults, as well as unique programs for any age or skill level.

"I think it's very important to educate students about dance and the arts," Zahorian said. "It's a dying form, and it's really something that in America and internationally, I think, that we need to just go to the schools, educate, how do you get them to come?"

Anyone interested in taking classes with the PBA can find more information on its website.

Students will perform "Nutcracker Sweets" at The Pullo Center in York on Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
