LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster restaurant announced that it is the first in the United States to receive a prestigious international culinary award.
Barberet Bistro and Bakery, located at 26 E. King St., is the first in the country to receive the World's French Restaurant Award, which is bestowed by the French Association of Master Restauranteurs.
"French gastronomy is a pinnacle that we honor and cherish being recognized for," the restaurant said on its Facebook page. "This accolade celebrated establishments that epitomize the essence of French culinary excellence, emphasizing values such as authentic French culinary techniques, meticulous attention to crafting dishes from scratch, sourcing ingredients from local sources, and nurturing aspiring chefs through educational support.
"Each of these criteria reflects our unwavering commitment to preserving and elevating the tradition of French Cuisine. We take immense pride in upholding these standards, which have been essential in shaping our culinary identity."
Cedric Barberet, executive pastry chef at the venue, has an extensive resume that includes stints at Le Bec Fin, Buddakan in Philadelphia and at Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida, where he created the seven-tiered wedding cake for former president Donald Trump and his wife, Melania.
He also won the "Sweets" competition on the Food Network TV series, "Chopped."
Barberet and his wife, Estelle, opened the downtown Lancaster bakery and bistro in 2016.
The Barberets thanked their staff and patrons while accepting their latest accolade.
"Our heartfelt gratitude extends to our excellent staff! As well as our patrons whose support and patronage have been instrumental in our journey. Without you, achieving such heights would have not been possible. Thank you for being a part of this journey."
