Characters flock to Carlisle Comic Con

Celebrities and characters from horror movies, TV series, professional wrestling and more will be at Carlisle Comic Con this weekend.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Celebrities, cosplayers and comic book characters will soon descend on Carlisle for an event celebrating art and media.

Carlisle Comic Con will recognize artists, writers, creators and more this weekend at its inaugural event. Attendees will have the chance to meet celebrities from their favorite movies and TV shows, see professional cosplayers, peruse Artist Alley and purchase goodies from various vendors.

Although it's a bit early for Christmas, The Grumpy Ole Green Guy and Snowmiser will be swirling around the Carlisle Expo Center.

Attendees don't have to leave dressing up up to the experts. There will be three cosplay contests—adults, kids, professionals—to choose the best costumes out of the bunch. Each category will have two winners.

On Saturday, organizers will honor actor, theatre director and film producer Jackson Leonard Bostwick Jr. with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He is best known for portraying the world’s mightiest mortal, Captain Marvel, on the 1970s television series "Shazam!" The award dinner coincides with the 50th anniversary of the show.

The dinner and award ceremony also celebrates Bostwick Jr.'s homecoming. He was born at the Carlisle Barracks in 1943.

Carlisle Comic Con will be held at the Carlisle Expo Center, located at 100 K St. in Carlisle from 6 - 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. Parking is free; admission tickets can be purchased in advance online.
