Lancaster honors Hispanic Heritage Month with community celebration

The Hispanic Heritage Month celebration this weekend honors the Hispanic community’s many contributions to the City of Lancaster.

LANCASTER, Pa. — The City of Lancaster will honor the Hispanic community’s many contributions to the area at its Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration this weekend.

Organizers say Lancaster is a fitting place to celebrate the month, as nearly 40% of city residents are Latino and Lancaster is home to many Hispanic-owned businesses.

Food trucks and vendors at the event will offer traditional and modern dishes.

"Not only is there local groups represented, we're also going to have a variety of all types of foods," Milzy Carrasco, director of neighborhood engagement for the city of Lancaster, said.

Entertainment will include live music from Nino Segarra and dancing. Those who are unsure on their feet can take dance lessons with Cristina Osorio.

There will also be activities such as face painting and vendors selling goods or offering information on community resources at the party. Organizers will nominate two community leaders for Lifetime Achievement Awards.

"We want everyone to come out, join the festivities and also help us in recognizing two wonderful community leaders," Carrasco said.

The Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration will take place from 1 - 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Binns Park and Ewell Plaza at 120-123 North Queen Street in Lancaster. Click here for more information.
