Leg Up Farmers Market's grand reopening benefits children with special needs

While shoppers get to enjoy a new and enriched environment, the money spent there will go towards supporting local businesses and children.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Leg Up Farmers Market, located in Manchester Township, York County, is set to unveil some of the new and improved modifications made to the market this weekend.

While shoppers get to enjoy a new and enriched environment, the money spent there will go towards supporting local businesses and the store's special needs organization, Leg Up Farm.

“We had to close down for one day, but because we’re an independent business and we have a lot of loyal customers, we found a way to make the amazing changes while only closing for one day,” said Dan Stump, store manager of Leg Up Farmers Market.

Some of the modifications made to the store include doubling the produce aisle to include more inventory of natural and organic products, adding another aisle for the health and wellness products and adding certified staff to the health and wellness aisle to answer any questions customers have about the products.

Leg Up Farmers Market connects with local farmers and artisans throughout Central Pennsylvania. Perrydell Farm & Dairy, Brubakers Apiaries, Mad Radish Farm and Locally Seasoned are just a few of the many local businesses Leg Up Farmers Market partners with.

“We love our local farmers, they’re one of my favorite people to get to work with,” said Stump. “One of our biggest local farms is literally 5 miles from the store called Mad Radish—and we get to meet them, and it’s literally a husband, a wife, 3 and 5-year-old as well as a Golden Retriever, and they’re the most amazing and down-to-earth people.”

Leg Up Farm’s mission is to enrich the lives of individuals and families with special needs through support and customized programs. The facility is the only one in the country to provide physical, occupational, speech, aquatic therapy and more to children and families with unique challenges.

“We (Leg Up Farmers Market) literally came to be as a way to help them grow and to send them more funding and hire more therapists to help more children,” said Stump.

The grand reopening takes place on March 23 at 11 a.m. Shoppers can also participate in giveaways and raffles, including a $500 gift card up for grabs. The reopening will mark Leg Up Farmers Market's eighth year in business.
