New Cumberland Apple Festival celebrates 38th year of family fun

The free, family friendly New Cumberland Apple Festival features attractions like an apple pie contest, scarecrow making, pig roast and live musical entertainment.

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. — Seeds of excitement are growing in Cumberland County in anticipation of the 38th annual New Cumberland Apple Festival this weekend.

Some of the highlights of the family friendly festival include an apple pie contest, Lego contest, scarecrow making, face painting, raffle drawing, pony rides, balloons, bingo, local artists, pig roast, live musical entertainment from opening until closing and more.

"Almost anything you can think of is there," Christine Leukus, festival chairwoman, said.

There will be over 70 food vendors selling everything from fair snacks to full meals. And as it is the Apple Festival, there will be apple everything to satisfy guests' cravings: apple dumplings, apple pies, apple funnel cakes, apple whoopies pies, apple cider and, well, apples!

Activities and hundreds of craft vendors will be at the festival to ensure that attendees never run out of fun.

"People come and see their neighbors and people they haven't seen in a while while they're enjoying all the other activities that are there," Leukus said.

Limited parking is available behind the West Shore Senior Citizens Center on Reno Street. Trolleys will pick up and deliver festival guests on Bridge Street at the corners of Third Street, Seventh Street, Park Avenue and Haldeman Boulevard.

Admission to the festival is free. It will be held at the New Cumberland Borough Park, located at 517 Front St. in New Cumberland, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. More information can be found here.
