YORK, Pa. — Rolling into their 50th year, National Street Rod Associations rev up their engine ahead of their 50th annual Street Rods Nationals East show in York. Over 2,500 visitors are expected to visit the York State Fairgrounds, and hundreds of car exhibitors are ready to welcome them in.

“You know we own this town this time of the year,” said Tom Wilkerson, Special Events Director of NSRA.

More than $800 million worth of street rods, muscle cars, and specialty vehicles from across the East Coast and beyond will be exhibited at the York Expo Center May 31- 2. More than 3,000 vehicles of all makes and models will be on display. Shiny chrome, amazing paint jobs, and powerful engines will take center stage once again for the 50th annual event.

“I think people think they’re kind of magnetized by the fact these cars are maybe a rut of success. A passion they love is the colors. They love the sound of the motors, I think they like it all the way around,” said Wilkerson.

There are about 15 participants who have come to every show to show off their hot rod. One of those people is Herbert Weiskopfsaid he’s loved cars since he was young and loves coming to the show to meet new people, hang out with friends, and share his passion for cars with visitors.

“‘Do you know that car people are the nicest people in the world they help each other?’” said Weiskopf. He added, “There’s never any arguments and it’s a great group of people.”

Organizers say that you might catch a glimpse of the cars as they continue to filter into town for the show but the best way to get a good look is to come to the show this weekend.

“If you wanna look inside and look at the motors and look at the interior look underneath that car talk to the owner. You need to come out to the fairgrounds. This is where it’s at right here,” said Wilkerson.

All activities are open to the public. The show runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday & Saturday and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Click here for detailed information.
