PENNSYLVANIA, USA — A new revelation from a genealogy company may prove that Taylor Swift earned the title of "Tortured Poet" long before penning her latest album.
Her claim to the title might even be in her DNA.
Ancestry has revealed that renowned lyricist Swift and famed poet Emily Dickinson are related.
The two writers are sixth cousins, three times removed. The genealogy company says the women both descend from a 17th century English immigrant who was an early settler of Windsor, Connecticut. He would be Swift’s ninth great-grandfather and Dickinson’s sixth great-grandfather.
Fans on social media seemed to take the news as a "well, duh" revelation, saying the relation is no surprise in light of the pop star's genius and emotional songwriting.
Swifties also immediately began scouring for Easter eggs that might have to do with the relation between the cousins. One X user noted that "evermore," widely regarded as one of Swift's most poetic albums, was announced and surprise-released on the late writer's birthday.
Fans will likely have their eyes peeled for any reference to Dickinson in Swift's upcoming album, "The Tortured Poets Department," set to be released on April 19.
