UNITED STATES, — The word 'demure' has taken over the social media world and has sparked a trendy phrase.

But where did the term originate from, and why is it so popular all of a sudden?

The word started its popularity on the social media app, TikTok where creator Jools Lebron (@joolieannie) created a video called, "How to be demure and modest and respectful at the workplace."

In the video, Lebron talks about her makeup look for work. Her makeup isn't how over-the-top and is subtle when she says, "I don't come to work with a green-cut crease." She also talks about her attire saying that she dresses presentable and isn't "doing too much."

Since the video was posted on Aug. 5, it has gained over 50 million views, over 4 million likes and 23,000 comments.

The word "demure" means reserved or modest, according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

But, with the new twist on it from the TikTok creator, the phrase is being used as if it means being modest and mindful of people around you. It also can be referenced as to showing subtle elegance in different settings.

From that point on on, the phrase "very demure, very mindful" has taken over the internet. Netflix has even added a special row of "Very Demure, Very Mindful" television and movie picks from Lebron.

Lebron's profile on TikTok now features a variety of ways she is being "demure" in different settings.

Outside of these videos, Lebron is an influence and makeup artist. She also is an advocate for "plus-sized trans women" and her journey of navigating her transition.
