MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — David Remm of Mechanicsburg is lacing up for a big run.
It's not a 5K.
Or even a marathon.
Remm is running nearly 150 miles across Pennsylvania to fight multiple sclerosis (MS)--a cause that hits close to home.
Twenty-five years ago, Remm's mother was diagnosed with MS.
“You’re a little helpless," said Remm. "Obviously it's harder for her than it is for us, but the thought is always: how can we help her?"
Remm, who has run marathons before, thought he could put his hobby to use. He joined M.S Run The U.S., an organization that puts on an ultra-marathon relay to raise awareness and funds to help fight M.S.
In August, Remm will start in Brookville, Jefferson County, and over the course of six days, run 148 miles to Sunbury, Northumberland County.
While the run may be a physical challenge, Remm says it's the cause that keeps him running through the pain.
"I think about the fact that there is so many people that can't run, like those suffering with MS," said Remm. "The run might suck sometimes, but it's sure better than not being able to run at all.”
Remm needs to raise $15,000 in order to officially run in August. To go to his fundraising page, click here.
